Materials
1 x Sheet of 160gms thin white card.
1 x Sheet of the A4 JS Mirri Silk Gold Card + small off cut.
1 x Sheet of A4 JS Gentle Gloss Photo Paper.
3 x JS Burgundy Paper Rose sprays (B1681). – 12 per packet.
JS 7mm Bordeaux Organza ribbon (sufficient to make three bows).
A small piece of gold paper – for reverse of mounted image.
Sticky stuff – I used Collall Glue, Silicone Glue and Double Sided Tape.
I also used the JS double ended pokey tool.
JS Cottage Garden CD. I used an image from Disc 2, Page 1.
Sentiment and peel-off border.
Gold stamp pad (optional)
Step One
I prefer to do my measuring/marking using the pokey tool (except where the measurements are to be seen). I find it difficult to remove pencil marks, and I am not as accurate. I remove the puncture marks left by the pokey tool using the ball of my embossing tool. It is a matter of personal choice and practise.
Cut a piece of 160gsm to measure 29.5cms x 16cms. Divide into half horizontally and mark four sections 8cms x 8cms at the four corners (shown by the red boxes, A, B, C, and D). From the inner top and bottom edge of the boxes mark another point 4.5cms. (Shown by the widest point of the green line). Score the four corner boxes and score from the widest point of the green line to the point where the corner boxes meet at each side. This gives you the letter “K” shape where the green and red lines meet. The red lines will be mountain folded and the green lines valley folded (not yet please).
Place your piece of card on top of the sheet of mirri card and using the pokey tool mark points 2mm inside the four corners of the two centre sections. This is shown by corner dots. Use the pokey tool marks on the mirri card to cut your shape. It is easier to cut these two pieces of card before folding the card into shape.
Step Three
Cut four pieces of Gold Mirri Silk cards 7.5cms x 7.5cms for the corners, plus the two centre pieces of card mentioned in Step.1
Step Four
Centre the mirri card pieces on each section and glue into place. I prefer Collall glue, because it allows me to move the pieces before final positioning.
Step Five
Choose your image. I wanted an oval image to compliment the two side sections of the card, and I printed one of the frames (in black & white) from the Cottage Garden CD (see Fig. A) using the largest image from the sheet to create a template by cutting out the oval (see Fig.B). I used this template to cut the oval shape from the gold mirri card. I edged the cut edge of the oval mirri card using a gold stamp pad to cover any white which might show. If you use a stamp pad make sure the cut edge is dry before attaching the image.
Print out your chosen image. I used the largest image from Cottage Garden, Disc 2, and Page 1. Use the same template you cut the oval gold mirri card from, but cut it slightly smaller so a thin gold border is visible when the cottage garden image is placed on top of the mirri card. Attach the image to the gold mirri card. (See Fig. C).
Cover the reverse of the image/mirri card with a piece of gold paper and edge with a peel-off to neaten.
Position your oval image on the front of the card allowing it to overlap the top of the centre section by half. Apply double sided tape to the reverse of the bottom half of the oval image and fix to the centre section of the card (See main picture)
Using Silicone glue (or similar) fix a burgundy rose spray to each of the side sections of the front of the card. If the sprays are too long, do not cut (wires exposed) turn the excess upwards and twist round the stem. Hide the twist with a small organza bow. Add a sentiment.
Step Six
Fix a rose spray and bow to the reverse of the card, attaching to the oval image. Do not attach the bottom leaf of the spray to the centre section, as this restricts movement when opening and closing the card.
The greeting can be written inside the card, or a small cartouche can be fixed to the centre section underneath the rose.
