I have made two versions of this card
The plain egg uses Alchemy card and the patterned version is made using the daisy backing sheet from The Cardmaker’s Year CD (May). The daisy backing sheet needs to be printed on 200/220gsm cardstock. If your printer will not print onto card follow the instructions using the plain Alchemy card.
Egg Template and Instructions
Egg Template
Right click on the image and select "save as" to copy the template to your computer. When you print you may need to play with your settings to achieve the correct size of 75mm Wide and 115mm Height.
I would insert the picture in to something like MS Word and from there you can resize to the desired size
The RED line marks the cutting line.
The GREEN line marks the cutting line to separate the top from the bottom
Position template pointed end to the bottom.
Materials: Eyelets, Silicone Glue, Foam Pads and 1 sheet of A4 cardstock for card.
Plain Egg: 1 x A4 sheet of Alchemy Card. (Sufficient to make the plain egg and the backing for the daisy egg to be mounted on) and 1 x A4 sheet of contrasting card to mat the egg on. (I used a backing sheet from Secret Gardens CD)
Daisy Egg: 1 x A4 Daisy Backing Sheet from The Cardmaker’s Year. (May). Printed onto 220gsm cardstock and Leftover card from plain egg, to mat the egg on.
Decoration for Eggs: Thin straight-line border peel-offs, Thin diamond shaped border peel-offs or suitable peel-offs which can be curved, 1 x Circular peel-off approx 2.5cms diameter to decorate the top of the egg. Optional – small jewels or other decoration to stud the egg. I used the small diamante and pearls from JS.
For the stand: Small piece of thick clear acetate, scroll type peel offs, Eyelets to secure.
Plain Egg
Using the Alchemy cut a piece of card 10cms x 10cms. Mark round the four edges of the card at 2cms intervals. Place the piece of card right side uppermost on your scoring board, and score between the marks horizontally and vertically to create a chequerboard effect. (See Fig. A)
With the wrong side facing, turn the card so one of the corners is pointing downwards. Centre the pointed end of the egg template on the bottom corner of your piece of card, draw round the template and cut it out. (See Fig. B)
Front side facing, lay the thin straight line border peel-offs in the grooves, laying all the peel-offs diagonally in one direction first. You should now have a diagonal lattice effect on the egg. Add half of the circular peel-off to the top of the egg neatening the excess on the reverse of the egg-top. (See Fig. C).
If you wish to omit the opening mechanism, the egg can now be matted onto a piece of cardstock 90mm x 140mm, adding the diamante/pearls to the egg as decoration and a double curved line of peel-offs to imitate the opening point of the egg. Curve the egg, apply silicone glue to the reverse and mat onto the piece of cardstock. Mount onto an A5 card.
Daisy Egg
Print out the Daisy Backing Sheet onto cardstock. Landscape orientation cut a rectangle 80mm wide x 120mm long. Ensure that the centre of one of the daisy flowers is centred on the 80mm width. (See red arrow Fig. A).
Lay the template so the bottom centre of the template and bottom centre of the Daisy Backing Sheet align. Draw round the template and cut out (See Fig. B).

Opening Instructions
Optional further instructions for both eggs are now identical - (The opening mechanism is a variation of the Waterfall Card)
Lay the top (lid) section of the template over the top of the egg and cut to separate the top from the bottom. Cover this cut line (which should be curved) with the fine diamond peel-off. (See Previous Daisy Egg Pic C).
Curve the egg and add the diamante/pearl decoration to the lattice peel-offs if not already done.
Cut a piece of card for the mat 90mm x 140mm and position the egg on the mat leaving space at the bottom for the egg-stand. (See Fig. A).
For the waterfall mechanism – cut a strip of card 297mm x 30mm.
Make a score line horizontally 65mm from the bottom of the strip, and a second score line at 80mm from the bottom of the strip (15mm gap between two score lines - shown by two red lines. Stick a small piece of card 15mm x 50mm just above the bottom edge of the 65mm strip and make two holes for eyelets clear of the long strip. (See Fig. B).
Place a strip of double sided tape in the 15mm gap and stick it to the reverse side of the top section of the egg, butting it up to the top edge. The 65mm section of strip should be to the front with the longer section behind. Trim the excess corners of the strip which protrudes at the top of the egg. Place the top of the egg and the strip on the mat, make corresponding eyelet holes through the mat and fix eyelets to secure. Stick a double thickness of foam pads(see red hatched area) between the two eyelets. Trim off excess from the bottom of the strip (check it opens), decorate and add a small piece of ribbon (See Fig. C).
Apply silicone glue to the reverse of the remaining piece of the egg. Do not apply it where the egg narrows. Ensure that the silicone does not come into contact with the strip which must be free to move up and down. Place on the mat lining up with the top of the egg and leave to dry.
When dry take a small piece of acetate and place it over the bottom of the egg. Position two suitable scroll peel-offs (you will need a left and right peel-off) over the acetate to made a stand for the egg. Cut round the acetate and fasten down with two eyelets.
