Materials
1 x Sheet of A4 cardstock for card.
Sufficient cardstock (approx 280gsm) to print three of the largest sized toppers on the CD.
Suitable sized topper and backing paper for the front of the card.
Length of 7mm JS Organza Ribbon.
Sticky stuff – either Collall photo glue or Red Liner Ultra High Adhesion Tape.
JS - The Pamela West Collection CD
The topper I used measured 98mm x 135mm. The size of the topper dictates the size you cut your base card. Toppers wider than 135mm will not fit on an A4 sheet of card. If you are familiar with using the screen capture (instructions on the CD) and pasting into a word processing programme you will be able to print the toppers singly and incorporate the extra side pieces. If your printer will not print onto card, print on paper and stick the topper onto a piece of card.
Step One
Using a sheet of A4 cardstock cut a piece of card 100mm x 297mm. The 100mm side is 2mm wider than the length of the topper. The 297mm is the length of an A4 sheet of card. Fold in half to create a landscape card size 100mm x 148mm.
Fix the topper and backing paper to the front of the card and add a small length of ribbon to decorate. I stuck my ribbon to the inside with double sided tape and tied a small piece of ribbon in a knot on the front of the card. (See Pic).
Step Two
Print three copies of the topper and work out which areas of the top two layers (2 & 3) to cut away. If you are printing out onto paper, glue each topper to a piece of card to strengthen.
Topper 1 forms the base and is left intact.
Topper 2 forms the middle layer. Cut away a section which follows the design but leaving a frame round the edge.
Topper 3 forms the top layer. Cut away a larger section, still following the design and leaving a frame round the edge.
(See Pic).
Step Three
Cut two pieces of card to form the sides of the topper 3 (top layer). I cut mine from a complimentary backing design on the CD as parts of these pieces are visible. I have illustrated the small pieces of card in white; Pic also shows the topper with the side pieces attached.
The left side piece of card measures 28mm x 98mm and should be scored on the 14mm mark. (See dotted line). Crease the score line.
The right side piece measures 42mm x 98mm and should be scored on the 14mm and 28mm mark (as illustrated by the dotted lines). Crease the score lines into a “Z” shape.
Fix a length of double sided tape or Collall glue to the 14mm section of the small piece of card (shown in blue – glue the whole of the 14mm section)) which is nearest the topper.
Attach to the underside of the topper, butting the edge of the topper up to the first crease line of the small piece of card. Trim away any excess which protrudes into the aperture at the left side of the topper. (See Pic).
Step Four
Working with topper 2 (middle layer) cut a 1mm sliver off either side of the topper, so it will fit inside topper 3 (top layer). Fig 5 also shows the topper with the side pieces attached.
Cut two pieces of card 21mm x 98mm and mark and score at 7mm. Fix double sided tape/glue to the 14mm section of the small piece of card, and attach to the underside of each side of the topper, butting the edge of the topper up to the crease line. The 7mm section should be bent downwards. (See Pic).
Step Five
Open your card and butt the right-hand 14mm section of topper 3 up to the right-hand inside edge of the card. Using double sided tape or glue stick down.
Trim 1mm of each side of topper 1 (bottom layer) and fix to the inside of the card, butting up to topper 3 (top layer).
Open up topper 3 and fix topper 2 to the inside side wall of topper 3 making sure that the 7mm side of topper 2 is positioned as per pic.
Step Six
Stick the left-hand side of topper 2 to the inside wall of topper 3.
Using strong double sided tape, stick the outside left-hand wall of topper 3 to the inside front of the card. (See Pic).
