Materials
1 x Sheet of A4 Card, minimum weight 250 gsm for card.
3 x Sheets of A4 Card or paper for toppers.
Jayne Netley Mayhew Collection CDs
Double sided tape or glue.
Step One
Landscape orientation, cut the base card in half widthways. Measure, mark and score (shown in red and green) the two pieces of card, as shown in photo. Do not fold.
Mark and cut away a diagonal section as shown by the black line. The diagonal line on piece A should start 11cms from the top left corner and finish approximately halfway down the right-hand side edge. The diagonal line on piece B should start 1.5cms from the top right corner and finish approximately halfway down the left-hand side edge.
Step Two
Cut away above the dotted line. Mountain fold the red lines and valley fold the green lines to create a zigzag. Glue the 1.5cms on piece B underneath the left-hand side of piece A. The blank card is finished and ready for decoration. (See Photo)
You will have a larger central section measuring 10.5cms x 11cms and three zigzags on the left, two on the right.
Step Three
Print out a number of images. If your printer will print on card, use card. If not, print on paper and mount onto card before cutting out. It is explained on the CD how to capture a single image and import it into a word processing programme. You will need 12 images two of which should be large rectangular (landscape orientation). Glue the large rectangular image in the centre section, and five of the other images to the front section of the zigzags. I chose to cut out part of the animals and to set the image so it stood proud of the zigzag folds. (See Photo).
Step Four
Repeat with the remaining images on the back of the card. (See Photo - Reverse of Card), covering the centre back section with a piece of blank card (to hide the join) before gluing the large image in place.
Optional - Decorate the inner sections of the zigzags, drawing grasses, or using suitable small stamped images etc. Fold the card, tie with raffia and add a small item of tribal art.
I bought a Nantic Sunwave Flower Press when they were first available on the website. I’m no expert but I’ve used it for a few years and press rose buds (courtesy of my local supermarket car-park – pick them on a dry day). I’ve also pressed foliage. Small ferns fixed to the inner sections with a dab of Copydex and covered with acetate to protect the foliage, are another option. This is my personal opinion.
